自闭症是一种属于自闭症谱系障碍(ASD)的神经发育障碍。在ASD中,个体在生命的早期阶段表现出严重的社会沟通障碍,重复行为和感觉行为缺陷。在全球范围内,自闭症的患病率估计不到1%,特别是在高收入国家。近几十年来,ASD的发病率急剧增加,这使ASD成为流行病的范畴。目前,美国食品和药物管理局批准的两种药物阿立哌唑和利培酮用于治疗自闭症儿童的激越和易激惹症状。然而,迄今为止,还没有发现任何药物可以治疗ASD的核心症状。传统医学的不良副作用和有限的治疗选择导致自闭症儿童的家庭转向补充和替代医学(CAM)治疗,与传统医学相比,这些治疗被认为是相对安全的。最近,N,N-二甲基甘氨酸(DMG)是一种膳食补充剂,已成为改善ASD儿童精神和身体状态的有用补充剂。本综述讨论了ASD、ASD的患病率、CAM方法以及CAM治疗ASD患儿的疗效。此外,它突出了DMG的化学,药理作用和临床研究,突出了其改善ASD儿童生活方式的潜力。
