Abstract
This chapter deals with the central nervous system (e.g. Phenobarbital,
Diazepam), cardiovascular (e.g. Glyceryl trinitrate), antilaprosy (e.g. Dapsone),
antiviral (e.g. Acyclovir), HIV-AIDS (e.g. AZT- Zidovudine) related drugs. Their
brand names, brief history of discovery, uses, mode of action and side effects have
been discussed to introduce the beginners. In addition, the role of nucleoside
analogues e.g. Acyclovir, Zidovudine in the chain termination of viral DNA synthesis
has been explained in this chapter.
Keywords: Drug discovery, Pharmaceuticals, Pharmaceutical chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics.
