Abstract

Introduction: Piribedil is a non ergolin dopamin agonist which is one of the most important drugs for the treatment of Parkinson disease. This work was aimed to investigate simple, sensitive and fully validated methods for piribedil determination.

Materials and Methods: Oxidation behavior of piribedil was investigated using boron doped diamond and edge plane pyrolytic graphite electrodes using cyclic and differential pulse voltammetric techniques. The relation between piribedil peak current and potential and pH, concentration, nature of the buffer and scan rate, separately, were studied.

Result: The oxidation of piribedil gave irreversible peak at both electrodes. The electrode process was found diffusion controlled according to scan rate results. For analytical purposes boron doped diamond electrode was used. The linearity was obtained in the range of 1.34×10-7 – 3.35×10-5 M with 1.95×10-8 M detection limit for differential pulse voltammetry in pH 3.7 acetate buffer solution using boron-doped diamond electrode.

Conclusion: The repeatability, reproducibility, recovery and all validation parameters of the developed method were studied and the method was found to be precise and accurate.

Keywords: Piribedil, boron doped diamond electrode, edge plane pyrolitic graphite electrode, voltammetry, drug analysis, validation, differential pulse voltammetry.
