The Structural Engineering section of the journal Current Chinese Science publishes original research articles, letters, reviews/mini-reviews and guest edited thematic issues on academic research and engineering practice in structural engineering.
This section is not limited to a specific aspect of the field but is instead devoted to a wide range of sub fields in the field. Articles of a multidisciplinary nature are particularly welcome. Professor Yu-Fei Wu is currently a Distinguished Professor at the College of Civil and Transportation Engineering, Shenzhen University, China. He obtained his BSc in 1983 and MSc in 1986 from Zhejiang University, China. He received MEng from National University of Singapore in 1994 and completed his PhD in 2002 at the University of Adelaide, Australia. He has more than ten years of industry working experience in structural engineering as a professional engineer in consulting firms in China, Singapore and Australia and is a chartered professional engineer of New Zealand and Australia (FIEAust, CPEng, NER, MIPENZ). His research interests lie in the broad field of structural engineering. Professor Wu has published more than 250 technical works, including 150 SCI indexed journal papers. Professor Wu is the inventor of numerous new structural theories and technologies and has received prestigious research awards including the Moisseiff Medal from American Society of Civil Engineers and State Scientific and Technological Progress Award of China. Professor Wu is the sole or 1st named inventor of six US patented technologies and numerous new structural theories and technologies, such as (1) the theorems for flexural design of reinforced concrete, (2) the experimental method that can directly measure shear strength components in RC member tests, (3) the compression yielding structural design approach to increase the ductility of RC members and others.
吴宇飞,深圳大学土木与交通工程学院特聘教授,博导。1983年毕业于浙江大学土木工程学系、86年于同校获硕士学位,1994年获新加坡国立大学土木工程硕士学位,2002年获澳大利亚阿德莱德大学博士学位。吴教授在中国、新加坡、新西兰和澳大利亚从事职业结构工程设计、管理工作超过10年,为澳大利亚和新西兰注册结构工程师。1989-1992任教于上海交通大学,2004-2015为香港城市大学建筑及土木工程系副教授(终身教职),2015-2019为澳大利亚皇家墨尔本理工大学工程学院教授(Metro Chair)。主要教学和研究领域包括:钢筋混凝土结构、结构设计、复合结构、FRP结构、结构加固等。吴教授发表超过250篇学术论文,其中SCI论文近160篇,Google Scholar-H指数为46。吴教授发明了若干结构新技术并被授权美国发明专利,2018年被美国土木工程师学会ASCE授予Moisseiff 奖章,两次获中国国家科技进步二等奖。
Associate Professor Huiyong Ban joined the Department of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua University in 2015, after working at UNSW for over two years. He was awarded BE and PhD degrees from Tsinghua University in 2007 and 2012, respectively. His research interests focus on advanced metal structures, including bimetallic steel structures, high-performance and high-strength steel structures, and deconstructable steel structures. Associate Professor Ban serves as Invited Executive Council Member of China Steel Construction Society (CSCS), Secretary-General of the Sub-association of Structural Stability and Fatigue in CSCS, and member of ASCE.
Dr. Yi Bao is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology. He directs the Smart Infrastructure Laboratory and leads the Advanced Structures and Process Innovation Research (ASPIRE) group. Before he joined Stevens Institute of Technology, he was a researcher at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor and National Institute of Standards and Technology. His main research interests include Structural Health Monitoring, Smart Materials and Structures, Fiber Optic Sensors, Machine Learning, Robot-assisted Condition Assessment, and Bridge Engineering.
Cristoforo Demartino is an Assistant Professor (2019-) at the Zhejiang University/University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (ZJU-UIUC) and adjunct Assistant Professor (2020-) at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. Prof. Cristoforo Demartino is the author of more than 90 publications in international journals (42) and conferences (49) mainly on the topics of Structural Engineering, Wind Engineering, Earthquake Engineering, and Structural Dynamics. Prof. Cristoforo Demartino has given over 10 invited lectures and he is an active reviewer in more than 35 international journals. The main idea of Cristoforo Demartino is the real advancement of engineering which involves a multi-disciplinary approach and cooperation across disciplines.
Dr. Bing Chen is a Professor at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. His research interests include: (1) composition, structure and properties of cement-based materials; (2) preparation and performance analysis of new inorganic-organic composite building materials; (3) characterization and non-destructive testing technology of smart cement-based composite materials.
Dr. Teng Wu is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at the University at Buffalo. Wu has made significant contributions to development of analytical and computational methods focusing on nonlinear and transient structural aerodynamics, nonstationary extreme winds, and hurricane wind, rain and surge hazards. His contributions have been recognized through the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) O.H. Ammann Research Fellowship, American Association for Wind Engineering (AAWE) Best Paper Award, ASCE Alfred Noble Prize, AAWE Robert Scanlan Award, International Association for Wind Engineering (IAWE) Junior Award and International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) Prize.r
Dr. Li Li has been an Associate Professor in Huazhong University of Science and Technology since 2018. His research area is Nano-mechanics, structural dynamics, computational mechanics, and Nano composites. He has published over 100 SCI papers with sum citation of over 4400 times and is a Highly Cited Researcher in the field of Engineering in 2019 and 2020. He is a reviewer for over 50 international journals and book reviewer for some publishers. He is an Associate Editor of “Journal of Applied and Computational Mechanics” and “Frontiers in Mechanical Engineering”, Current Chinese Science and an Editorial Board Member of “Archive of Applied Mechanics” and “Nano science & Nanotechnology-Asia”.
Dr. Lü is the Qiushi Distinguished Professor and Associate Dean of College of Civil Engineering and Architecture at Zhejiang University. He has been with the faculty of Zhejiang University since 2006 upon receiving his Ph.D. degree in civil engineering. He has ever jointly worked as Research Fellow at City University of Hong Kong (2007- 2009) and Visiting Scholar at Northwestern University (2010-2012). Dr. Lü's research interests include smart/composite materials and structures, flexible/stretchable intelligent devices, and growth of materials. He has co-authored 100 journal articles with 4100 citations. He is awarded the NSFC Distinguished Young Scientist (2019) and Changjiang Scholar Young Scientist (2017).
Prof. Michael C. H. YAM is the Deputy Director and Secretary-General of the Chinese National Engineering Research Centre for Steel Construction (Hong Kong Branch). He is a Professor of the Department of Building and Real Estate at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research focuses on focusing on experimental and numerical investigation of structural steel members and connections. His current research projects include high strength steel bolted connections, fatigue and fracture of high strength steel, the application of shape memory alloys in steel connections, and earthquake resilient structures. He is a Fellow of ASCE and HKIE.
Dr. Lik Lam is currently Research Professor at Southern University of Science and Technology in China. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2000. He has been active in academic research in the areas of civil engineering materials and concrete structures. He has authored or co-authored a number of highly cited papers on FRP composites for civil engineering applications, and is a co-author of the written book “FRP- Strengthened RC Structures”. He also has extensive experience in particle engineering in civil infrastructural projects.
He is a professor in School of Civil Engineering, Southeast University. He was granted by National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation of China. He was also granted by other 5 NSFC projects and 1 Australia Research Council Linkage project. More than 150 journal papers have been published. He was listed in the 2nd class National Science and Technology Progress Award of China, the 1st class of provincial Science and Technology Progress Award of China for 2 times, and the 2nd class of provincial Science and Technology Progress Award for 3 times. He was awarded the Silver Youth Science and Technology Award of CSRME, J.M. Ko Medal for 2017 (Advances in Structural Engineering, the best paper), as well as the honorary title of Outstanding Young Scholar of Engineering Mechanics in China.
Dr. Roberto Realfonzo has received PhD in Structural Engineering. He is a Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering (DiCiv) of the University of Salerno (Italy). He is a member of the Board of the PhD Course on “Risk and Sustainability in Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Systems” at DiCiv. He was a Past-President of the American Concrete Institute Italy Chapter. He is an author of about 200 papers, published in national and international journals and conference proceedings He is also a member of the Scientific Committee of Federbeton, the italian federation representing companies involved in the sectors of cement and concrete Member of the Editorial Board of "Frontiers in Materials" and "Frontiers in Built Environment". He is a past member of the fib, Task Group 4.2 “Bond Models”.
Dr. Alemdar Bayraktar is a Professor of Structural Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University, received his PhD in 1995. His research interests are Structural Engineering, Earthquake Engineering, and Structural Health Monitoring. He has 164 international journal papers in SCI/SCIE and over 300 other publications, many national and international research and application projects. He has successfully supervised many MSc and PhD theses. He is a member of journal and conference editorial boards. Between 2004-2007 and 2007-2013 years, he was served as Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University, respectively.
Dr. Weichen Xue is a Professor of Structural Engineering in Tongji University, China. He is also the Distinguished Professor of Chang Jiang Scholar, Ministry of Education of China. He received his doctoral degree from Southeast University, China, in 1995. His main research interests lie in three distinct areas in structural engineering: a) Precast concrete structures, b) Prestressed concrete structures and c) FRP in civil engineering. So far, he has authored or co-authored over 200 publications, including about twenty papers were published in ACI/ASCE journals. Prof. Xue serves as chair or co-chair of over twenty Chinese national, provincial and associational design codes.
Professor Zhong Tao obtained his PhD from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2001. He is currently Theme Director of Materials in the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering at Western Sydney University. He was an inaugural Future Fellow of Australian Research Council. Professor Tao has a research background in the areas of construction materials, steel-concrete composite structures and structural fire engineering.
Associate Professor Lihai Zhang is an academic staff in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering at The University of Melbourne. He is best known for his expertise in numerically modelling of fluid and structure interaction, mass transfer and reactive transport in deformed porous media, impact engineering as well as the development of advanced stochastic analysis methods. He has published more than 140 international journal papers, scholarly books & book chapters, and conference papers. He has been awarded more than 30 National and International Competitive Grants with a total of over AU$10 million. Currently, A/Prof Zhang is a Fellow and Chartered Professional Engineer of Engineers Australia. He has supervised/co-supervised more than 20 PhD students.
Dr Jian-Guo Dai is a Professor of Structural Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He obtained his PhD from Hokkaido University. His research field is “Innovative Materials and Structural systems”. He is the Editor of “Advances in Structural Engineering”, Associate Editor of “Journal of Advanced Concrete Technology” and Vice Editor-in-Chief of “Journal of Asian Concrete Federation”. He is Technical Board Chair of Asian Concrete Federation and Vice President of International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC). He is Fellow of IIFC, Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and Hong Kong Concrete Institute (HKCI). He has published about 110 SCI papers.
Dr Jinlong Pan is a Professor at the School of Civil Engineering, Southeast University, China. He joined Southeast University in September 2006 as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Professor in 2012. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in September 2005. He also holds two degrees, BEng in Civil & Structural Engineering and MEng (Res) in Structural Engineering awarded in 1999 and 2002, respectively, both by Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. He has published more than 70 articles up till now. Jinlong’s research covers a board range of fields in Construction materials and Structural Engineering, with focus on strain-hardening cementitious composites, geopolymer/alkali-activated cement, fibre reinforced polymer composites, 3D concrete printing, precast concrete structures and its seismic behaviour, steel-concrete composite structures, numerical modelling of fracture and structural behaviour of concrete and concrete structures etc.
Dr Jian-Ying Wu's research focuses on the theoretical and computational modelling of engineering materials and structures. As the PI, he has secured more than 3m CNY from NSFC and most since 2010, including the Early Career Award of NSFC (2012). He has published more than 80 journal papers and won the Award of National Science and Technology of China (2016). Currently, his research interests include the modelling of the instantaneous/time-dependent mechanical behaviour (strength, deformations, damage, fracture, creep, fatigue, etc.), durability (carbonation, freezing-thawing, erosion, penetration, etc.), hazard (fire, earthquake, impact and blast, etc.) resisting properties of engineering structures. In particular, he recently proposed a unified phase-field damage theory applying to both brittle and quasi-brittle solids and developed a phase-field regularized cohesive zone model which can be used to model the damage and failure of engineering materials and structures.
Dr Xian is currently a Professor at the School of Civil Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) and also a Vice-director at the Department of Building Materials, School of Civil Engineering, HIT. His research interests focus on Composite Materials (processing and mechanics, characterization, carbon fibre, basalt fibre, natural fibre, long term durability, fatigue, adhesives) and FRP reinforced structures (rehabilitation of concrete and steel structures, prestressing strengthening, bridge strengthening, pipe strengthening, cables, bars). He is an Author/Co-author of more than 100 referred archival papers in scientific journals, over 100 papers in conference proceedings, chapters in books, technical reports, and is also a holder of 13 patents.

Prof. Muhammad N. S. Hadi is currently an Associate Professor and an Academic Program Director at the School of Civil, Mining and Environmental Engineering, University of Wollongong. He has an outstanding research background in structural engineering, in particular in the areas of concrete structures, strengthening structures, and the use of novel materials to reinforce structures. He has attracted over $2M of research funds and successfully supervised 26 PhD students. Currently, his research team includes 18 research students (ME and PhD). His research was published in more than 237 ISI journal papers. He also has two patents.
Prof. C.W. Lim received a Doctor of Philosophy in Mech. Eng. From the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 1994. He received a Master of Engineering in Mech. Eng. From the National University of Singapore, Singapore in 1991 and Bachelor of Engineering in Mech. Eng. (Aero) from the University of Technology (UTM), Malaysia in 1989. Currently, he is a Guest Professor at the Dalian University of Technology, P.R. China. Also, he is an Adjunct Visitor at the Zhejiang University, P.R. China. He has published two books, 256 refereed journal papers since 1993; 11 techs. notes; 1 book chapter; and 159 conference papers.
Dr Nicola Nisticò graduated in Engineering from the Sapienza University of Rome. He obtained his PhD at the University of Firenze in 1994: the thesis examined the validation of the Discrete Element Method for the seismic assessment of Block Masonry Structures, and the formulation and implementation of a constitutive model for a contact-impact problem. He was previously a Researcher at the National Group for Protection against Earthquakes (GNDT) where he focused on the seismic vulnerability evaluation of existing structures. Since 1997, he is an Assistant Professor of Structural Engineering at the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering, the Sapienza University of Rome where he teaches as an Associate Professor on Structural Design and is a member of the PhD Board. His scientific activity addressed topics regarding a) expert systems b) numerical modelling b) seismic assessment and retrofitting of existing structures b) structural monitoring c) composite FRP materials.
Prof. Rongqiao Xu joined the Institute of Transportation Engineering, Zhejiang University as a lecturer after he got the bachelor, master and PhD degrees from the Zhejiang University from 1989 to 1999. From January 2003 to December 2004, he visited Nagaoka University of Technology and Science, Japan. He also visited the City University of Hong Kong from November 2005 to February 2006. He was PI for 3 projects and also participated 5 projects supported by NSFC. He published more than 60 SCI papers, which were cited more than 800 times. He is the director of the Institute of Transportation Engineering, a member of council for bridge and structure engineering branch of China Civil Engineering Society, a member of council for tunnel engineering branch of China Highway and Transportation Society. His research interests includes the analysis theories and methods of bridge and tunnel structures, the bridge information management and artificial intelligence, composite structures, smart materials and structures, FRP and so on.
Dr. Shilang Xu is a Chair Professor of Civil Engineering of Zhejiang University and the Chairman of Academic Committee of College of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Zhejiang University. Since 2010, he is the Director of Institute of Advanced Engineering Structures and Materials at Zhejiang University. From 2009 to 2014 he serviced as the Dean of the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Zhejiang University. He received his Ph.D. degree in Dalian University of Technology, China in 1988. He has conducted research over the past four decades on concrete fracture mechanics, high- performance cementitious composites, hybrid structures, hydraulic structures and dam safety analysis. He has authored/co-authored over 400 scientific papers, leading to over 7,400 non-selfcitations. He initially introduced the double-K fracture criterion and is the chairman of RILEM Technical Committee TDK: Testing methods for determination of double-K criterion for crack propagation in concrete, which was created by RILEM in September 2011. His work has been studied and cited by scholars from over 57 countries and regions. And the Chinese National Standard DL/T 5332-2005 is published to define the testing methods for the determination of double-K parameters. He won the second prize for National Natural Science Award of China in 2015 and the second prize for National Technical Invention Award of China in 2018. Current Interesting fields include the integrity evaluation and toughening techniques of quasi brittle composites; safety evaluation method of nonintegrated structures with in quasi brittle composites; nano improving and fiber recombination for cementious composites.
Dr Alper İlki is a Professor of Structural Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. The main theme of his academic studies is the seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete and masonry structures, as well as seismic design, assessment, and retrofitting. He is the author/co-author of more than 50 international journal papers and more than 160 international conference papers. Other than acting as a reviewer or guest editor for more than 40 international reputable scientific journals, he acts/acted as associate editor or editorial board member of ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering, ASCE Journal of Composites for Construction, Bulletin of New Zealand Society of Earthquake Engineering, International Journal of Civil Structural Health Monitoring, Arabian Journal of Science for Engineering and Technical Journal of Chamber of Civil Engineers, among few others. He also co-edited two international books published by Springer titled Seismic Risk Assessment and Retrofitting, and Seismic Evaluation and Rehabilitation of Structures.
Fei Kang is a professor in the Faculty of Infrastructure Engineering at Dalian University of Technology. His research interests are focused on dam safety monitoring and health diagnosis of hydraulic structures. He has supervised three projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and more than 10 other scientific research projects. He has published more than 60 scientific research papers. He was selected into a National Youth Talent Program, and was selected as a highly cited Chinese scholar. He won the first prize of Liaoning Province Natural Science Award and the Sloan Outstanding Paper Award.
Professor Feng Peng joined the department of civil engineering, Tsinghua University in 2005. He was awarded BE and PhD degrees from Tsinghua University, China in 2000 and 2005, respectively. Professor Feng’s research interests encompass the theory and technology of advanced materials and novel structures in civil engineering, composite materials and composite structures, neo-concrete structures and special structures, and 3D-printed structures. Professor Feng is council and executive committee member of the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC), and member of the Property of Concrete (AFF80) and Structural Fibre-Reinforced Polymers (AFN20) of the Transport Research Broad (TRB). He has published over 130 peer-reviewed English and Chinese journal papers. Professor Feng also serves as Associate Editor of the journal Advances in Structural Engineering.
Dr Zhenyu HUANG is currently Associate Professor in the College of Civil and Transportation Engineering, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Durability for Marine Civil Engineering,Shenzhen University, China. He received his PhD from National University of Singapore in 2015. His research focuses on the Marine FRP/steel-concrete composite materials and structures, lightweight steel-concrete composite and prefabricated modular structures. Dr. Huang has been awarded the Guangdong Provincial Outstanding Youth. He has published over 60 academic papers in the field of Marine and Composite material and structures, including 42 SCI journals. He received funds for more than 10 national and provincial scientific research projects.
Dr. Yanping Zhu is a research fellow at the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering, Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA. His research interests include ultra-high-performance concrete, structural health monitoring and distributed fiber optic sensors. He is a Scientific Reviewer for more than 15 highly reputed international journals, e.g., Engineering Structures, Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, Scientific Reports, etc. He has authored/co-authored more than 40 publications, including 1 Editor-in-chief's featured article in Fire Safety, 1 Editor's choice article in Journal of Bridge Engineering, 1 article in most downloaded papers' list for 90 days in Engineering Structures.
Dr. Yan-Lei Wang currently is an Associate Professor in Structural Engineering at Dalian University of Technology, China. He received his Bachelor degree, Master Degree and PhD degree from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2001, 2003 and 2008, respectively. His research interests include structural use of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, composite structures, new and emerging structural materials.
Dr. He Zhang is currently an Associate Professor of civil engineering at Zhejiang University, where she received her B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in 2005 and 2010. She worked as post-doctor in Department Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University, USA from 2011 to 2012. Her research interests include smart sensing technologies, mechanical energy harvesting, dynamic behavior of structures, and structure-borne acoustic noise. Dr. Zhang was awarded as the Distinguished Young Scientists by Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation (2019) and Qiushi Young Scholar of Zhejiang University (2014). She is the Principal Investigator of research projects granted by NSFC (2011/2014/2019) and sub-projects of National Key R&D Program of China (2019/2020). She has published more than 50 papers in high profile international journals, including Nano Energy, Energy Conversion and Management, Composite Structures, ASME Journal of Applied Mechanics, Journal of Sound and Vibration, and ASCE Journal of Energy Engineering etc. She also holds more than 20 patents in various technological applications of smart structures, energy harvesting and smart sensing.
Dr. Ao Zhou currently is an Assistant Professor at the Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, China. He got his PhD degree from City University of Hong Kong in 2017. His research interests include durability of fiber reinforced polymer bonded material systems and development of sustainable materials and high-performance materials for civil engineering, etc. Dr Zhou has published more than 30 papers in reputable journals and international conferences.
Dr Jun-Jie Zeng is currently an Associate Professor of Structural Engineering at the Guangdong University of Technology, China. He received his PhD degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2017. His research interests include emerging materials for construction (ultrahigh performance concrete, seawater sea-sand concrete), FRP strengthening structures, FRP-concrete-steel hybrid structures, durability of structures, structures subjected to fatigue, earthquake and impact loading. Dr Zeng has published 25 SCI indexed journal papers (including one ESI highly cited paper).
Dr. Qian-Qian Yu currently is an Associate Professor at the Tongji University, China. She got her PhD degree from Tongji University in 2014. She spent two years during her PhD in Monash and one year after graduation in CityU. Her main research interests are fatigue performance evolution and improvement of steel structures, and application of fiber-reinforcement polymer materials in civil engineering.
Dr. Yang Wei is a Professor at the College of Civil Engineering, Nanjing Forestry University, and awarded as a distinguished Professor of Jiangsu Province in China. His research interests include bamboo (wood) structures, composite structures, bridge inspecting and strengthening technology, etc. He has published over 100 papers, and has achieved more than 100 authorized patents.
Dr. Hai Fang, Doctor, Professor, has conducted in-depth and innovative research on infrastructure composite structures all the time. Several creative research achievements have been made on the composite structures on system innovation, static and fatigue properties, impact energy absorption mechanism, etc. He invented a series of engineering products, such as pavement, bridge deck, floor slab and bumper system against ship collision. The invented products have been applied in more than 40 key projects, e.g. Sutong Bridge, Tsingtao Bay Bridge, Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge, Runyang Yangtze River bridge, Pingtan Strait rail-cum-road bridge and air force field positions. He has managed 13 longitudinal tasks and 14 crosswise tasks, published 46 SCI papers, published 16 papers as the first or corresponding author in famous journals with IF greater than 3.0 in the field of composite structures or impact engineering), obtained 26 authorized national invention patents, edited 2 provincial construction methods, co-edited 1 transportation industry standard and 1 monograph.
Dr Wan-Yang Gao received his PhD degree in Structural Engineering from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2013. Currently, he is working as an Associate Professor in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. His research interests include structural use of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, structural fire safety, new and emerging structural materials, etc. Dr Gao has published over 70 technical papers in highly reputable journals and international conferences.
Dr Wengui Li is a Senior Lecturer in School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of Technology Sydney, Australia. Dr Li received a Joint Doctoral Degree of Structural Engineering from Tongji University and Northwestern University (USA) in 2013. His current research interests basically include sustainable construction materials and smart concrete. Dr Li has published more than 80 referred journal papers with citation of 2241. He has been awarded research funds from Australian Research Council (ARC), Australia.
Dr Jianping Lin received BE in Civil Engineering from Sichuan University, China, in 2009, and a PhD in Bridge and Tunnel Engineering from Zhejiang University, China, in 2014. After finishing his PhD degree, he was appointed at the City University of Hong Kong as a Research Associate from 2014 to 2015. He has been affiliated with Huaqiao University since 2016, where he is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering. His research interests cover the computational mechanics, structural strengthening, and steel-concrete composite bridge. He has more than 15 publications and published research papers in the journals including Journal of Composites for Construction ASCE, Journal of Engineering Mechanics ASCE, Journal of Bridge Engineering ASCE, and Construction and Building Materials et al.
Dr Jiang Jiafei is an Associate Professor in the Department of Disaster Mitigation for Structures, College of Civil Engineering, Tongji University. She got her PhD degree from the City University of Hong Kong in 2012. Her research field covers the concrete and composite structures, especially FRP application in retrofitting and new construction. She has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers. She has been the PI of NSFs and international corporation projects. Currently, she is the council member in composite materials for civil engineering, a branch of Chinese Society for Composite Materials, and the member of two Chinese codes.
Dr De-Cheng Feng is an Associate Professor at the School of Civil Engineering, Southeast University (Nanjing, China). He received his B. Eng. in Civil Engineering from Southeast University and a PhD in Structural Engineering from Tongji University. He has been a visiting scholar at Lehigh University (2014-2015) and University of California, Los Angeles (2019-2020). His research interests cover three major parts: 1) multi-fidelity damage and failure modelling approaches for complex structures; 2) PDEM-based performance assessment of structures with different sources of uncertainties; 3) machine learning-aided deterministic/stochastic computational methods. He has published more than 50 SCI-indexed scientific papers in the related fields.
Dr Xihong Zhang works as a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Infrastructure Monitoring and Protection at Curtin University. Dr Xihong has received his PhD degree in 2014 from the University of Western Australia. He has many years of research experience focusing on advanced structure analysis, structure protections against extreme loading, advanced construction materials. He has led and worked as a principal researcher for experimental and numerical studies into construction materials and structure dynamic analysis at both micro- and macro- scales, which have been used to understand the behaviour of concrete, steel and composite structures, with simple design methods being devised for engineering practice. He has more than 30 publications.
Dr Xiaoshan Lin is a Lecturer of Structural Engineering at the School of Engineering, RMIT University, Australia. Her research interests include High-performance composite materials and structures, Finite element development for accurate and efficient numerical simulation, Structural analysis under extreme conditions. She received her PhD in 2012 from The University of New South Wales, Australia. She is a Scientific Reviewer for more than 20 highly-reputed international journals, e.g. Engineering Structures, Composite Structures, Composites Part B, etc. She has authored/co-authored more than 40 publications, including 1 research monograph, 1 book chapter and 25 refereed journal articles.
Dr. Pengda Li is currently an Assistant Professor at the College of Civil and Transportation Engineering, Shenzhen University. He obtained his MSc in 2010 from Sheffield University, UK, and received his PhD in 2014 at City University of Hong Kong, SAR, China. He has more than five years of industry working experience in structural engineering as a professional engineer in consulting firms in China. Prior to joining Shenzhen University, he worked in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at City University of Hong Kong from 2016 to 2017 as a research fellow.
Dr Zi-Long Zhao obtained his PhD degree in 2016 from Tsinghua University (China). He is now an ARC DECRA fellow at RMIT University. His research focuses on investigating the mechanical behaviour of chiral structures and natural biological structures, intending to decipher the physical mechanisms underlying their exceptional properties and functions, and gaining inspiration to design innovative and highly efficient products and tackle practically important and technologically challenging problems. By March 2020, he has published 25 articles in high-impact SCI journals.
Prof. Yu Zheng was awarded a PhD degree of Structural Engineering at Queen's University Belfast at 2008. He joined the Dongguan University of Technology, China in 2008. Currently, he is a Professor of Structural Engineering and Head of Department of Civil Engineering at the Dongguan University of Technology, China. He is an active member of IIFC, Voting Member of ACI Committee, and Member of FRP Application Committee of China Society of Civil Engineers (CSCE). Prof. Zheng currently leads the Innovated Construction Materials and Novel Structures Research Group at the Dongguan University of Technology. His research interests include emerging structural materials and systems, the structural use of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in construction, retrofit of structures, life-cycle structural engineering and numerical modelling. His publications include over 20 SCI journal papers.
Dr. Zhang Bing obtained his Bachelor degree and Master Degree from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2007 and 2009, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2014. He is currently an Associate Professor at Nanjing Tech University, China, and a Research Fellow at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received “APFIS2017 Award for BEST PAPER for Research on FRP in New Construction” in 2017. His research interests include hybrid structural members with FRP, composite structures, as well as novel structures using emerging materials.
