Abstract
This paper presents innovative algorithms that efficaciously exploit system redundancies to provide highly available data and voice network services. In this paper, which is based on three of his industrial patents, the author discusses two problems: i) high availability of customer data from replicated databases despite nodal or link failures on some portions of the network on which they are housed, and ii) high availability of voice and data call services in wireless networks of third generation and beyond (3GB). The main challenges in the first problem are replication of the database updates generated at a node to all the remaining network nodes, and synchronization of replicated databases despite long down times due to network or nodal failures. In the second problem, varied accessibility of multi-band call resources depending upon the mobile user ’ s position from the cell-sites housing those resources poses difficulties for optimal resources utilization. The algorithms discussed herein address these challenges.
