Abstract
Enormous work and research have been done so far for improving and developing new biocompatible biomaterials. Still, the need for better biocompatible materials is there for implants like Intraocular lens (IOL). IOLs are used for correcting eye vision. They are placed inside eye after surgery. Besides quality and performance of material, biocompatibility is an important aspect for implants. Advances in the field of IOLs still require the material of high quality which meets the stringent norms of performance. Scientists are working on the development of materials for IOL targeting the needs arising out of the developing countries. The challenge includes not only bringing down the cost of the material but also increases biocompatibility of IOLs. To aid in knowledge of material and biomedical scientists, we are presenting here a review article with compilation of work done so far along with recent patents in relation to IOLs and biocompatibility.
