Abstract
Background: The species of genus Streptocaulon are well known for their traditional uses in the treatment of various diseases like dysentery, influenza, stomachache, chronic nephritis and traumatic injury.
Objective: In recent years, the genus Streptocaulon has been studied for its chemical constituents and biological activities. The cardiac glycosides and triterpenoids are the major constituents of this genus and most of cardiac glycosides exhibit anti-proliferative effects.
Conclusion: The aim of the present paper is to review the comprehensive knowledge of the compounds isolated from this genus including the chemical structures and biological activities.
Keywords: Streptocaulon, Asclepiadaceae, cardiac glycosides, NSCLC cell lines, triterpenoids, bio-activity.
