Abstract
In an oncology setting, technetium-99m methylene diphosphonate (Tc-99m MDP) bone scans are done to assist in the diagnosis of bone metastases. Extra-skeletal Tc -99m MDP uptake is occasionally seen and is usually due to an artifact or a flaw in the procedure [1]. True extra-skeletal findings are unusual and relate mainly to the excretion of radio active tracer via the urinary system [1, 2]. Here, we present such a case of an unexpected finding of liver metastases in a patient who had a bone scan as part of her investigation into the cause of her hypercalcaemia. A brief review of the literature accompanies this report.
