一种最初起源于中国的新型冠状病毒 SARS-CoV-2 已经蔓延到所有国家，并成为政府和公众的全球关注焦点。除了健康问题外，COVID-19 大流行还对每个国家的经济和政治状况造成了巨大影响。自大流行开始以来，由于对 SARS-CoV-2 感染引起的疾病发病机制缺乏清晰的认识，医生们被迫依赖管理策略。科学家们正在孜孜不倦地收集有关这种致命病毒的最大信息，并提出各种策略，这些策略可用于治疗和疫苗开发方面的 COVID-19 感染。很明显，病毒感染导致急性呼吸窘迫综合征（ARDS），大多数死亡是由于呼吸衰竭。随着病毒通过呼吸道飞沫传播，全球范围内都在进行大规模的预防措施和诊断，以防止传播。这篇综述融合了各种更新，并作为一个保护伞，就 SARS-CoV-2 介导的 ARDS 发病机制、合并症的影响、诊断、疫苗开发的当前进展以及有前景的治疗和免疫调节策略提供了见解，强调了各种为有效抗击当前和未来的流行病而需要解决的问题和差距。
