Abstract
By facile condensation of aromatic amines 4-aminobenzoic acid, 2-amino-4, 6-dimethylpyrimidine, 3-aminopyridine, 4- bromobenzenamine and 4-methylbenzenamine with glyoxal and formaldehyde, catalyzed by acid or base under one or two step reaction sequence, five novel (±) trans-4,5-dihydroxy-1,3-diarylimidazolidines (DHDAIs) were prepared and characterized by X-ray single crystal analysis, NMR, IR and elemental analysis.

Catalytic C-H bond activation as a tool for functionalization of heterocycles
The major topic is the functionalization of heterocycles through catalyzed C-H bond activation. The strategies based on C-H activation not only provide straightforward formation of C-C or C-X bonds but, more importantly, allow for the avoidance of pre-functionalization of one or two of the cross-coupling partners. The beneficial impact of ...read more
