Publishes original research articles, letters, case reports, reviews/mini-reviews and guest edited thematic issues on various topics related to Biochemistry.
The section Biochemistry of the journal Current Indian Science publishes original research and review articles, letters and special issues of interest to the readers that showcase the novelty, enlighten the futuristic thoughts, raise provocative questions and hypotheses regarding an interesting and important biological question in the various dimensions of biochemistry, and serves as a platform for the discussion of new ideas in the same field. It invigorates transdisciplinarity and provides quantitative insights into fundamental problems at the molecular, cellular, and systems and whole-organism levels.
This section is not limited to a specific aspect of the field but is instead devoted to a wide range of sub-fields in the area. Articles of multi-disciplinary nature are particularly welcome. Submissions in the following areas are of special interest to the readers of this journal:

Professor, Rizwan Hasan Khan received Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India during the period of 1992-1996. Currently, he is working in the area of protein structure, function, protein misfolding or aggregation and amyloid induction and inhibition at Aligarh Muslim University. His research is focusing on many aspects of protein misfolding and aggregation such as designing suitable molecules for inducing aggregation in proteins to understand the mechanism of protein aggregation, to find out the molecular mechanism of toxicity of protein aggregates using neuronal cell lines and animal models, to find and synthesize new suitable drug molecule for the treatment of debilitating protein aggregation diseases. He is an editorial member of several reputed journals including IJBM, Plos One, CPPS, JBB, Journal of Biophysics etc.He has guided 23 PhD theses and completed 12 research projects. He has published around 325 papers in the journals of international repute with H index of 60 and total citation around 12766. His two patents are under process.
Dr. Saheem Ahmad received Ph.D. in Biochemistry (JNMC) from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India during the period from 2007- 2011. Currently, he is working in the area of Glycation Biology, Diabetes and Cancer Biology. He has more than 11 years of teaching experience to under and postgraduate students. Dr. Ahmad is placed among top 10 scientists across the world in publishing research papers in the field of 'Glycation Biology' in Scopus indexed journals during the last 5 years. He has held several academic and administrative posts both at the Integral and the Hail Universities. He also works in the realm of Diabetes and Cancer Biology. His research is focusing on many aspects of protein glycation and the diseases associated with it. He is an editorial member of several reputed journals including Plos One, CPPS, Journal of Immune Research, Frontier in Biosciences etc. He also served as Guest Editor of Seminars in Cancer Biology, Frontier in Genetics, International Journal of Molecular Sciences and CPPS. He has guided 08 PhD theses & 29 PG theses and completed 07 research projects. He has published more than 100 papers in the journals of international repute with an h- index of 32 and more than 3000 citations.
Prof. Dr. Subhendu Sekhar Bag completed his Ph. D. in 2005 in Bioorganic Chemistry from IIT, Kharagpur, India. Since 2008, he is serving the IIT Guwahati, India wherein he is a full Professor of Chemistry. He has made outstanding contributions in the area of Chemical Biology/Bioorganic Chemistry, especially in Expansion-of-the-Genetic-Alphabet, Expansion-of-the Genetic-Code, SNPs Genotyping/DNA detection, Peptidomimetics, Enediyne-antibiotic, PhotoChemistry/Photobiology, and Wound-Healing-Gel. He has published > 100 articles/ book-chapters/Web courses and produced several PG/UG and Doctoral students. He has received several prestigious Awards like CChem (RSC), FRSC (RSC), FICS etc. He is serving several international journals as Associate Editor/Guest Editor/ Editorial Board Member.
Dr. Avishek Biswas is the Principal Scientist obtained his Ph.D. degree from Indian Veterinary Research Institute and has made significant contributions to animal nutrition, particularly for better productivity, reproductive efficiency, immunological efficiency, and sound gastrointestinal health. He has also contributed to the standardization of the high-altitude cold-desert farming system and the development of pressurized normobaric hatchery technology which has been recognized by the Indian Patent office and granted a patent certificate. His citation index is 961 (h-index-17 and i10-index-31) which reflect his high-quality research work. His recent work identifying natural growth promoters as an alternative to antibiotic growth promoters has been praised. He has received several prestigious national and international awards including fellows, best researcher award-International Travel Grant, the Netherland. He has guided 12 postgraduate and 6 Ph.D students and published more than 100 research articles in peer reviewed international and national reputed journals. He has visited different foreign countries for training and attended scientific conferences, symposium etc.
Dr. Kuladip Jana is presently serving as a Principal Scientist in the Division of Molecular Medicine and Scientist-In-Charge at the Centre for Translational Animal Research, Bose Institute, Kolkata, India. Dr. Jana was trained as a postdoctoral Research Associate in Molecular Endocrinology and Reproduction in relation with Aging/Alzheimer's disease in Garrison Institute on Aging, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Centre, Texas, U.S.A. Presently, Dr. Jana's laboratory is focusing on Translational drug development Research in diverse directions i.e. Ageing associated testicular gametogenic and steroidogenic dysfunctions: Ameliorating potential of natural product derived small molecules, Molecular signalling of germ cell apoptosis by Benzo(a) pyrene like environmental toxicants and its protection by natural aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) antagonist, Diabetes associated Endocrine & Reproductive disorders as well as germ line stem cell apoptosis and its protection by natural flavonoids (Sulforaphane analogs), etc. Dr. Jana also developed a non-surgical Chemical Sterilization drug for male animals in the course of his Ph.D. work. Dr. Jana serves as Advisor in Scientific Advisory Board of different Institutes as well as he is a Govt. of India approved Nominee in IAEC/IBSC/IHEC of different Institutes and Universities. Based on his research and fellowship training Dr. Jana received several awards, Fellowship and honours, such as: Young Investigator Award, 2011 (USA), Young Scientist Award, 2012 & 2014 (USA), Outstanding Scientist Award, 2015, Eminent Scientist Award, 2022, etc. He is serving as an Editor and Editorial Board Member of more than thirty-five reputed International Journals. He has also authored around 100 international research articles/book/book chapters. Dr. Jana guided Fifteen Ph.D. students and he is also a member of several learned Scientific Societies like, Society for Redox Biology & Medicine, USA, Science Advisory Board, USA etc. Dr. Jana is an Honorary Rosalind member of the London Journal Press and he visited abroad to deliver invited lectures and chaired sessions in many conferences and workshops.
Dr. Suaib Luqman completed his PhD from the University of Allahabad, India and his Postdoctoral studies from the University of Hawaii, USA and King's College London, United Kingdom. Presently, Dr. Luqman is working as a Principal Scientist at CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow, India. His research work and skills are focused on understanding the efficacy of natural products from plants for their anti-cancer and anti-infectious expediency using molecular and cell target-based approaches. Dr. Luqman is a recipient of several international & national awards and has published more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 6 patents, 2 protocols and 5 book chapters. Dr. Luqman has delivered many invited lectures at various international and national forums and presently serves as an editorial board member in several journals. He is a life member of many scientific societies and beneficiary of fellowship/scholarship from the international organization.
Santi M. Mandal earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology and continues to conduct research in the field of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. He visited UTMB-USA and NUS-Singapore for his postdoctoral training. For two years, he was an Assistant Professor of Microbiology at Vidyasagar University in India. He has over 140 research articles published in reputable publications and has received numerous major prizes for his research contributions. He is now employed at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur's Central Research Facility in Kharagpur, India.
Dr. Chandi C. Mandal is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, School of Life Sciences, Central University of Rajasthan, India from 2013 till date. From 2006-2012, he received his postdoctoral training from the University of Texas Health Science Centre at San Antonio, Texas, USA. He obtained Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur, India during 2000-2005. He did M.Sc. in Biochemistry from Calcutta University, India. Prof. Mandal's research interest is aimed at understanding the cellular signal transduction mechanisms involved in cancer, metastasis and bone diseases. He is also the editorial board member of various science journals.
Dr. Pranav Kumar Prabhakar received his PhD in Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, India in 2011 and he completed his Master's in Biochemistry from Patna University Bihar, India in 2003. Currently, he is working as Professor at Lovely Professional University Punjab, India and heading the Department of Research Impact and Outcome. His research area includes synergic combination, Phytomedicine, and metabolic disorders. He is serving as an editorial member in several reputed journals and an expert reviewer for many journals. He has authored 60+ research articles, 12 book chapters and 3 books. He is a life member of Royal Society of Chemistry and Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society (APCBEES), Asian Council of Science Editors, and Indian Science Congress.
Dr. Sriram Seshadri has more than 17 years of experience in teaching and 15 years of experience in research. His research area of interest includes understanding the role of gut microbiota in diabetes and liver inflammation. His group has successfully developed an animal model for diet induced diabetes and has established that gut dysbiosis is one of the major causes for the induction and progression of insulin resistance, resulting in type 2 diabetes and even obesity. His group is currently working on the targeted drug delivery using pH specific polymers and secondly targeting the FFAR and GPR receptors in the colon for the treatment of metabolic disorder and liver inflammation.
Prof. T Sivaraman is right now working as a dean research at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Engineering College, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Group of Institutions, Perambalur, India. He received his Ph.D., in chemistry from National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan in 1999. He has more than 26 years of research experience in the area of toxinology, cancer biology, computational biology and drug design. He has published a number of research articles in reputed international journals with a few books and delivered many presentations at various scientific events. He has successfully completed a few research projects sponsored by funding agencies such as DBT, ICMR & CSIR, New Delhi, India. He is an editorial board member and a reviewer of several reputed journals, as well as member in many international and national societies and organizations.
Dr. Amit Roy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, Savitribai Phule Pune University, India. He obtained his Ph.D degree in 2009 from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India and was awarded Postdoctoral Fellowship from "Danish Cancer Society, Denmark" in February 2010 and Carlsberg Foundation, Denmark in January 2011. He has completed his postdoc from Aarhus University, Denmark. He is a recipient of INSA Young Scientist Award (2011) by Indian National Science Academy (INSA), Govt. of India. His areas of specialization are molecular parasitology, drug development and therapeutics.
Dr. Budheswar Dehury holds a Master Degree in Bioinformatics with a Ph. D. in Bioinformatics from Assam University Silchar (2016). Currently, he is working as a DHR-Young Scientist at ICMR-Regional Medical Research Centre, Bhubaneswar in a project to develop novel inhibitors targeting proteases of SARS-CoV-2, which is supported by the Department of Health Research, Ministry Health & Family Welfare Govt. of India. He has more than 6 years' of research and teaching experience in the frontier areas of Computational Biophysics, Transcriptomics, Metagenomics, and Molecular Mechanics.
Dr. Budheswar Dehury holds a Master Degree in Bioinformatics with a Ph. D. in Bioinformatics from Assam University Silchar (2016). Currently, he is working as a DHR-Young Scientist at ICMR-Regional Medical Research Centre, Bhubaneswar in a project to develop novel inhibitors targeting proteases of SARS-CoV-2, which is supported by the Department of Health Research, Ministry Health & Family Welfare Govt. of India. He has more than 6 years' of research and teaching experience in the frontier areas of Computational Biophysics, Transcriptomics, Metagenomics, and Molecular Mechanics.
Dr. Sen has done his masters from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and then Ph.D. from AMU, Aligarh in 2009. He has published 35 research articles in peer-reviewed journals reputed across the globe, and has an Indian patent registered. He is a life member of Society for Biological Chemists, India. Currently, he is working on a process engineering of the expression of recombinant anti-TNFα scFv, and development of a microfluidic system for amyloid detection in clinical and other biological samples. He is currently working at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore.
Dr. S. Srinivasan completed Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry from Annamalai University. He is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Faculty of Science, Annamalai University. He has 22 years of teaching experience and 16 years of research experience. He has published more than 24 papers in reputed journals and 5 book chapters, and serves as a reviewer and editorial board member of several reputed journals. His research citations are 883, h-index is 14 and i10-index is 17. He is an active member of about 4 medical societies and received research grants from the Govt. of India Research fund. He has organized and coordinated many educational seminars, scientific symposia and workshops and attended national and international conferences. Dr. S. Srinivasan received the Young Investigator Award in Science and Engineering Research Board from the Govt. of India. Currently, he is committed to exploring the naturally occurring phytochemicals for intervention (treatment) of diabetes mellitus and related complications in animal models.
Amit Kumar Yadav is a Computational Biologist working as Senior Research Scientist at the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India. His major research focus is to understand the posttranslational modifications (PTM) and their crosstalk in regulating disease progression in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). He develops computational and statistical tools for quantitative proteomics, multiplexing and PTM identification, proteogenomics and metabolome-proteome integration. He has received- Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award, 2013 from DBT, Innovators under 35 (TR35) from MIT-Tech Review in 2013, and several grants for his research.
Dr. Vivek, H.K, obtained his Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Mysore. Later, he joined Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru, where he worked on the purification and isolation of taste peptides, and its taste peptide sequence. After completing the project, he joined for Ph.D in Applied Science (Biotechnology) from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. During his doctoral studies, he was awarded CSIR-Senior Research Fellow, and Ph.D Student Assistantship from TEQIP (Govt. of India). In the year 2016, he was awarded a Ph.D degree and joined M/s. Syngene International (ranked as one of the top 25 fastest growing companies in India and 4th rank in Asia) as Senior research associate at the Discovery Chemistry-Analytical Research and Development division. He specialized in Venom Biology, Analytical Biochemistry, Medical Chemistry, Enzyme Technology, and Computational Biology. He has published 58 research papers (h-15 as on Dec 2021) and guided more than 30 Master students for their dissertation and 1 Ph.D. He is also working on academic-industry collaboration and consultancy with Nutraceutical Companies. He is also a regular reviewer for several international journals. Besides, Dr. Vivek is nominated as Associate Editorial Board member for Venom and Toxins, and Guest editor for Current Topics in Medicinal Chemistry.
