Abstract

With the robust development of carbon material science, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) possessing novel chemical properties, unique high surface area and outstanding thermal and electronic properties have gained a special interest in membrane applications. The preparation of novel carbon nanotube (CNT) films and CNT hybrid membranes is still of great importance because of the new demands for membrane materials that have defined architectures and improved properties. Due to the high surface area, excellent electron conductivity, superhydrophobicity and enhanced mechanical strength of CNT films, the research on CNT films has blossomed during the recent decades. Many potential applications of CNT films in environment, energy, membrane transportation, electronic devices, and biosensors have been explored and implemented. In this review, we give a summary of the main aspects of CNT films related to its preparation, characterization and applications.

Keywords: Carbon nanotube, film, electronic device, biosensor, hybrid membrane.
