Abstract

Background: Developing nations are already in a dire need of technology to increase productivity. The power industries mainly depend on fossil fuels, which emits tons of contaminants.

Objective: To be able to respond to the rapidly increasing need for power and the constant zeal for a greener environment, solar cells take the thoughtfulness of the researcher. Silicon based conventional solar cells group up to be the first generation solar cells that have dominated the photo voltaic market in large proportions.

Results: With advancement in research and development thin film and organic solar cells started ranging the photo voltaic spectrum, introducing us to the second and third generation solar cells.

Conclusion: This paper comprises of the study of generation wise solar cell materials from the beginning to the present and clearly concludes the better material for solar cell, considering its efficiency and economic point of view.

Keywords: Efficiency, energy, generations, materials, solar cell, crystalline silicon.
