Abstract

Glycine molecules self assemble as nanolayers on mild steel surface, when mild steel is immersed in an aqueous solution containing 60 ppm of Cl – and 100 ppm of glycine for 5 minutes. The film formed is very stable. It is acid resistant, alkali resistant and corrosion resistant. The formation of nanofilm on the metal surface is confirmed by FTIR spectra and AFM analysis.

Keywords: Carbon steel, corrosion inhibition, glycine, self-assembled, self-assembling nano layers.
