Abstract

Joining characteristic of 2124 Al metal matrix composites (MMC’s) reinforced with Ni3Al particulate using diffusion bonding process with 2124 Al, were investigated. In this research, the welding characteristic quality of the Ni3Al/2124 Al MMC’s with 2124 Al was running to define the influence of Ni3Al intermetallic particulates on bonding properties. The aging heat treatment also applied to some samples to observe the effects of the age hardening on adhesion properties. The tentative steps indicated that the applying age treatment after diffusion bonding increases Ni3Al particulate accumulation so, this event results in high concentration of Cu and Ni atoms at the composite interface. And also, increasing the weight fraction of Ni3Al reinforcement in composite samples increases the effects of the aging heat treatment on diffusion bonding.
