Abstract

Thin film CdTe/CdS has long been regarded as one promising choice for the development of cost-effective and reliable solar cells. High efficiency has been achieved in CdTe/CdS heterojunction structure in laboratory and current techniques for CdTe/CdS solar cells gradually step toward commercialization. Advances in different process of materials depositions and configurations of CdTe/CdS films with applications in solar cells are presented in this work.

We review some recent patents and scientific papers that show innovated process to improve the properties of the CdTe/CdS cells. This improvement would have as a result the development of new technologies that may allow the production of CdTe/CdS cells at large scale.

Keywords: CdTe, CdS, CdTe/CdS Solar cells, close-space sublimation, sputtering, chemical bath deposition, electrochemical bath deposition, thin oxide-glass.
