Abstract

There has been massive research and development done during the last decade in the field of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). In this direction, many routing techniques have been proposed which are classified with respect to the protocol’s performance, operation and network types. In the early days, security issues were not kept in mind while designing routing protocols. WSNs applications consist of critical infrastructures like military and healthcare, and may be exposed to serious security threats. The availability of resources is a focus for such infrastructures which support a secure, resilient and reliable environment. In this survey, we focus on the discussion of achieving secure routing in wireless sensor networks. For this purpose, we study and analyze different routing protocols, their limitations and some possible solutions proposed by researchers.
