Abstract
Increased oxidative stress was observed in obese Zucker rats. Treatment of obese rats with tetradecylthioacetic acid for 12 weeks increased the H2O2-production, but decreased plasma malondialdehyde, changed the serum fatty acid profile, increased liver fatty acid binding protein mRNA, and lowered serum insulin, thereby enhancing the antioxidant defense system.
