Abstract
The synthesis, characterization and anti-bacterial activity of novel substituted aryl/heteroaryl-(12-substituted phenyl-12H-7-oxa-8,10-diaza-benzo[a]anthracen-11-yl)-amines were described. The in-vitro anti-bacterial activity of the title compounds was determined against some gram negative Escherichia coli (NCIM, 2065), Klebsiella pneumoniae (NCIM, 2957) and gram positive Bacillus subtilis (NCIM, 2063), Staphylococcus aureus (NCIM, 2079) bacteria by agar cup plate and MIC method in comparison with standard drug. Anti-bacterial results indicated that the synthesized compounds 3a and 3c possessed a broad spectrum of activity with MIC values of 316 - 512 μg/mL. While all other compounds are less potent than standards against all strains.
