Abstract
Enhanced mitochondrial oxidative damage has been implicated in pathogenesis of various human diseases. This mini review will discuss the role of mitochondria in oxidative lung injury and the pathways induced by oxidant signaling. Recent studies suggest that mitochondrial targeting of antioxidants can reduce oxidant signaling and oxidant-stress while preserving mitochondrial structure and function. The impact on the treatment and prevention of acute lung injury will also be discussed.
