Abstract
Presently, there is an ever growing need to develop reliable and eco friendly processes in nanotechnology research. The present study deals with the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Carthamus tinctorius flowers extract at 50oC and at room temperature. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using UV – Vis absorption spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. Green synthesized AgNPs were found toxic against E. coli (KCTC 2441), S. aureus (KCTC1916), B. substilis (lab culture), C. albicans (lab culture) and B. cerevisiae (KCCM 1020) both in liquid and solid group media. AgNPs had significant cytotoxic effect on SGT oral cancer cell line within the concentration range of 0.2 to 1.0mM.
