Abstract

Introduction: In recent decades, ultrasound-guided thermoablation techniques have been proposed as a therapeutic alternative to classic surgery or radiometabolic therapy for thyroid nodes. Important results have been obtained from the use of ultrasound-guided and ultrasound-assisted ablative techniques, such as Laser (LTA), Radiofrequency (RFA), HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound therapy), and Microwaves ( MWA). Normally functioning benign thyroid nodes with a local compressive effect or aesthetic problem immediately represent ideal therapeutic indications. Also, treatments for hyperfunctioning hot nodes have found space. Further, LTA and RFA are the most used, with greater effectiveness and negligible side effects.
